Abstract

Genetic variation in crop plants is one of the major resources, which helps breeder to select desired plants and solve crop issues. Mutation Breeding is one of the main approaches used in agricultural research to induce genetic variation. It is widely used to improve the genetics of crop where natural variation is absent. Genetic variability can be introduced into field crops like wheat, maize, rice, pulses etc. with the help of mutagenic agents. Recent technological outbreaks widened the scope of this field. It enables the researcher to work with non-conventional crops with limited resources and utilize this technique in crop improvement programs.
