Abstract

It is well known that flooding and high application of fertilizers increases the cost of inputs and reduce the crop yield. The maximum yield can be obtained with fertigation through increasing water and fertilizer use efficiency. In order to study the opti mum fertigation level for higher yield and water productivity under drip irrigation a field experiment was conducted on potato during the winter season of 2018-19 at Water Management Research Farm, RenalaKhurd , Okara, Pakistan. The experiment comprised of four fertigation levels i.e., F1 (100% of recommended dose of NPK fertilizer), F 2 (75% of recommended dose of NPK fertilizer), F 3 (50% of recommended dose of NPK fertilizer) and F 4 (25% of recommended dose of NPK fertilizer) was laid out in RCBD with 4 replications. It was noted that under F2, the potato yield (26852 kg/ha) was high estof all treatments whereas F1, F 3 and F 4produced 22083, 20019 and 19547 Kg/ha yield respectively. Similarly, the irrigation water productivity was highe st (15.20 Kg/m3) under F2 compared with F1(12.50), F3(11.32) and F4(11.07). Marketable potato tuber sizes S2(35-55 mm) and S3(Large < 55 mm) under F 2 was comparatively higher than F 1, F 3, and F 4. The percentage of Scab disease in F 2 was 3.5%. In this present study, the effect of F 2 (75% of recommended dose of NPK fertilizer) was concluded to be the best in terms of tuber yield and water productivity, under drip irrigation system.
